What Happens When an In-network Service Provider is Unavailable to Serve Your Home Warranty Need?

Out of Network Contractor Fixing Sink

Old Republic Home Protection (ORHP) has a robust network of over 4,000 independent service providers (a.k.a. contractors) to serve our plan holders across the country. We strive to have an in-network contractor available to address every home warranty claim, but that’s not always possible in some areas.

For example, some rural areas or newly established territories may have limited in-network contractor availability to serve ORHP home warranty plan holders. Similarly, not all in-network contractors carry the specific equipment needed to diagnose or perform specialized repairs.

No in-network contractor? No problem!

If we don’t have an in-network contractor available to serve you, we may suggest that you hire an out-of-network contractor to perform the diagnosis and repair. Remember, always contact us first to ensure coverage applies to your home warranty service request. We will advise you to hire your own out-of-network contractor if we don’t have a network service provider available to serve you.

How does ORHP's out-of-network service process work?

When a plan holder places a service request, we notify an independent network service provider to contact them directly to arrange service. If an in-network service provider is not available, we authorize the plan holder to contact a contractor of their choice to render service. We suggest the contractor be qualified, licensed and insured, and charge fair and reasonable rates for parts and service.

Once the technician is at the home, prior to rendering any services, the plan holder must call our Authorization Department to provide a diagnosis and estimate of necessary work. Typically, if the cost to complete covered repairs is $500 or less, no call to the Authorization Department is necessary.

If repairs will exceed $500, our Authorization Department confirms the services are covered and the work can be completed at an agreed upon rate. After the contractor performs the authorized services, the plan holder submits the paid invoice to ORHP. We reimburse the plan holder for covered services, less the trade call fee due. Our goal is to have money back in plan holders’ hands in 30 days or less.

We're here to serve you as People Helping People throughout the service process, even when we don’t have an in-network independent service provider readily available.

We're always growing our network

We consistently recruit contractors eager to extend their services to ORHP plan holders. Know any service providers who might want to work with us? Encourage them to join our network!
